Step 1: An initial consultation with one of our dentists will be conducted to assess your overall oral health and determine if a tooth extraction is necessary. This includes taking X-rays, taking measurements, and using digital imaging technology to identify any potential issues that could affect the procedure.

02

Step 2: Once it has been determined that a regular tooth or wisdom tooth extraction is recommended or necessary, the dentist will administer local anesthesia (injections) around the affected area in order to numb the area and prevent pain.

03

Step 3: The tooth is then carefully removed using specialized instruments, such as forceps or elevators. If necessary, the dentist may use special tools to section a tooth into smaller pieces before it can be extracted.

04

Step 4: Our dental team will provide post-operative care instructions, which typically include taking medications and avoiding certain foods. In some cases, we may recommend follow-up appointments to help ensure that your smile remains healthy and beautiful.

  • How long does it take for a tooth extraction?

The amount of time required for a tooth extraction can vary depending on the complexity of the procedure. Generally, simple extractions can take anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes while more complex ones may require up to an hour or more. Your dentist will be able to give you a better estimate after they have examined your mouth and determined what type of procedure needs to be done.

Recovery time also varies depending on the nature of the extraction, with some patients recovering in just a few days while others may need up to two weeks before they feel completely normal again. Following post-extraction instructions is critical for ensuring that all healing processes go smoothly and quickly.

  • What are the post-operative care instructions for tooth extractions?

As with any dental service like tooth extractions or dental implants, following a tooth extraction, it is important to adhere to our post-operative care instructions for the best possible outcomes. After your procedure, we recommend that you:

    • Take prescribed medications as directed and take any over-the-counter pain relievers if needed.
    • Avoid using a straw when drinking fluids.
    • Ice the area gently to reduce swelling.
    • Keep the gauze in place for at least 30 minutes after the appointment and change them out regularly as advised by the dentist or dental hygienist.
    • Apply an antibacterial mouthwash twice daily to keep infection at bay.
    • Stick to soft foods like yogurt, oatmeal, mashed potatoes, and scrambled eggs for the first day or two after surgery.
    • Once inflammation subsides, gradually increase your diet with more solid foods – but avoid crunchy items like chips and nuts for at least seven days following your procedure.
    • Rest up! Make sure to get plenty of sleep and avoid strenuous exercise for several days after your tooth extraction.
  • Is tooth extraction painful?

Thanks to our experienced staff who can provide local anesthesia and other options such as general anesthesia or oral sedation if needed, you won't feel any discomfort during your actual procedure!

This is also the case for our other services like dentures or crowns and bridges.
